Peacekeeper Television: The Next Food Network Star

I have to admit something dear readers, I am a foodie. My ever expanding waist is proof of that fact. The Food Network is my ESPN and the chefs on there are my sports heroes. I can watch Food Network all day and I can do is think, “Gods I am hungry!” Funny thing is when I met Alton Brown last year I was more nervous than when I met William Shatner. Don’t know why but I was intimidated by the knowledge this man has about food. So yes now the truth is out, I am a worshiper of all things Food Network.

Construction Updates Comics: Star Trek Year 4: The Enterprise Experiment

Star Trek Year 4: The Enterprise Experiment
Star Trek: The Original Series, as most of you know only had three short years on the air. When NBC decided to cancel the five-year mission with two years left unknown, fans were left to wonder what would happen during those final two years. Now, thanks to the people at IDW Publishing, fans are finally getting to see what was never realized on the TV screen.

Working_Man Comics: Wild Cards: The Hard Call #1 of 6

The Wild Cards are back. No not the silly game show with the oversized playing cards; that was Card Sharks. I’m talking about Wild Cards: superheroes written by science fiction authors. For those to whom this sounds like so much Greek a quick recap may be in order...

Arcane Guyver Comics/Manga: Naruto #1: The Tests of the Ninja

Story & Art: Masashi Kishimoto
Translator: Katy Bridges
Publisher: Shonen Jump

Ninjas are pretty darn cool. They are impressive athletes, powerful spellcasters, and masters of deception. A few even review movies. And then there are ninjas so awesome, they not only refuse to cover their face but wear bright orange jumpsuits. Naruto thinks he's one of the latter.

Arcane Guyver Comics/Manga: Oh My Goddess! #27

Story & Art: Kosuke Fujishima
Translators: Dana Lewis & Christopher Lewis
Publisher: Dark Horse

Volume 27 of OMG concludes the story of Keiichi and his 'angel.' I found it sort of interesting how quickly he had become emotionally attached to the creature. I'm sure nobody will be able to predict how they seperate him and his familiar. Let's just say it involves a foe from an earlier story...and some seriously unwanted intimacy!

Arcane Guyver Comics/Manga: Oh My Goddess! #26

Story & Art: Kosuke Fujishima
Translators: Christopher Lewis, Dana Lewis, and Lea Hernandez
Publisher: Dark Horse

I'm a huge, if inexperienced, fan of the 'Ah!/Oh My Goddess!' franchise, so let me get this out of the way quickly: I've only been able to read up to volume 6 of the manga, and through a strange and convoluted series of events, I found myself reading volume 26. And one thing kept running through my head the entire time - "This is a COMPLETELY different comic!" Talk about a quantum leap in terms of art style..!

Arcane Guyver Games/Video: Live A Live

System: Super Famicom
Developer: Squaresoft (1994)
Fan Translator: J2E Productions

This is one of the coolest, yet least known-of RPG released by Squaresoft back in the 16-bit days. I imagine this is the result of either a bet or just the team wanting to do something different. I'm just glad that this was not only published but also translated by some industrious folks online!

Arcane Guyver Comics/Manga: Jim Henson's Legends of the Dark Crystal: The Garthim Wars

Script: Barbara Randal Kesel
Art: Heidi Arnhold & Mark Kim (Jae-Hwan Kim on cover art)
Publisher: Tokyopop

The Dark Crystal is a truly classic fantasy movie, and one of my favorites. I always thought there was so much potential for this universe, but it remained undeveloped...until now. The Garthim Wars is a prequel to the movie, showcasing the first struggle between the magically animated garthim and the gelflings. The story focuses on Lahr and Neffi, a pair of gelflings who've survived attacks on their hometowns by the garthim. They make it their mission to spread word of the slaughter, and to rouse the somewhat insular and peaceful gelflings to war.

Arcane Guyver Comics: Conan and the Midnight God

Script: Joshua Disart
Art: Will Conrad
Publisher: Dark Horse

I remember a time when I thought, "Conan...a king? That doesn't even make sense. What sort of stories could they possibly tell?" This is one of them, and it proves that you may take the barbarian out of the wild, but you can't take the wild out of the barbarian. The story starts off after Conan has fought for the crown of Aquilonia for the second time (being ousted by traitors temporarily), with a pregnant queen and a somewhat dull life of seeing envoys and ruling. Madness is stirring in Stygia once again, and Conan is compelled by personal reasons to take down the darkness.

Arcane Guyver Comics/Manga: My-Hime

Script: Kimura Noboru
Art: Sato Ken-etsu
Publisher: Tokyopop
Rated: 17+ (Mature)

I'm having a very hard time summing up my feelings for this manga without at least mentioning the anime it's kinda-sorta based off of. My-Hime, the anime, is the story of a girl acquiring superpowers and sorting out her various personal issues while saving the world. My-Hime, the manga, is the story of a boy who finds himself as a leader and moral support for a group of super-powered girls, overcoming his self-defeating feeling of powerlessness while saving the world. Both utilize the same characters, but go off in very different directions. If you've watched the anime and enjoyed it, just stop reading this review and pick this up. Part of it's charm is seeing the author take plot threads that went unused or were merely hinted at in the anime and having fun with them.

They've been sitting in the "To Read" pile next to my bed for weeks now, staring at me with silent reproach, asking, "Why are you reading that DC Spotlight: Raven before us? We're an X-Men crossover. X-Men, dude! You know you'll like us better than that emo goth chick."

Based off of the 'd20 Modern' rules (which in turn is based off of 3e D&D), 'Modern-20' is another attempt at capturing the best parts of the d20 system, while eliminating the worst parts. I'll be giving my feelings on the book as I read through it.

Arcane Guyver Movies/DVD: G-Saviour

G-Saviour
Released By: Bandai (2001)
Rated: 13 and up (for animated violence)

Ah man, where do I begin...? G-Saviour is a very strange movie, inspired by the anime series 'Mobile Suit Gundam,' which has spawned all sorts of spin-offs over the last three decades. In fact, this live action movie was made as a sort of tribute, to mark the 20th anniversary of the franchise. Well, you know that saying: "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions?" Yeah...

Volume 2 of Fairy Tail begins where the first volume left off. Natsu, Lucy and Happy are traveling to Shirotsume Town to complete a job. By now, any self-respecting fanboy or girl should have at least a passing acqaintance with the Hellboy franchise. First appearing in 1993, Mike Mignola's paranormal investigator has spawned a mythos that extends across comic books, novels, live-action films, direct-to-DVD animated features, a role-playing game, HeroClix, and the VS system collectible card game. Suffice it to say, in many ways Hellboy has become the little infernal engine that could.
