The Digital Matrix: Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2

cod2 Call of Duty – Modern Warfare 2.  Picking up right were Modern Warfare ended.  Meet old buddies and new ones as you travel all over the world fighting against terrorism and the threat of nuclear war.

1. Graphics (OUTSTANDING) – This is by far the most realistic game I have seen in a long time.  Everything pops with amazing detail.  Nothing has been missed from a single blade of grass to the trash debris floating around the streets.  Every map is its own masterpiece rendered with absolute care and consideration.  Buildings constantly consist of two if not three levels easily giving off the spectacular view of mountain ranges, snow covered forests, and sprawling Urban landscapes.  One of the real treats in the game are the number of Ariel support vehicles that can be called in to rain down destruction or drop off much needed supplies.

2. Game Play (OUTSTANDING) – Depending on your skill level, the main story itself will last you around six full hours on normal mode.  While this may seem a bit short to most, I can personally guarantee it is the most rewarding first person shooters i have played all year long.  A guaranteed game of the year for the FPS genre.  MOD2 Also includes a new so-op campaign called special ops.  While it is disappointing that the main campaign isn’t co-op, the spec-ops mode offers many fun challenges for you and a friend.  There are 4 sections containing multiple missions such as a snowy silent sniper mission, a bridge under siegeas it crumbles under your feet, and of course one of my personal favorites, unleashing hell from above from an AC-130.  Of course, no one can forget the meat and potatoes of the game, the online multi player. 70 levels of  glory await you.  Assault rifles, sub machine guns, light machine guns, shotguns, and sniper rifles can be selected and customized to your content in a vary familiar custom class build.  Perks can also be customized to give you the edge in combat with a new benefit.

Not only are there new perks available, they upgrade to become even more useful as you continue to pound your enemies into dust.  Weapon masteries and challenges await you and unlock customizable call signsand emblems giving every death you grant someone a little extra kick in the teeth.  If that wasn’t enough, you can now also customized your kill streak rewards.  Level up and unlock new special attacks to help ramp up your kill count like a remote controlled missile, a harrier jet to hover over an area ready to melt some faces, the chance to gun a helicopter and if you are just that bad ass enough to pull it off, launch an instant game winning tactical nuke.

As good as all of this sounds, I do have a bit of a warning for you.  Dedicated servers are a no go for fans of the PC version.  Instead you are now forced into a peer-to-peer match making program that does a good job but is far from perfect.  Lag is a constant issue and it is not uncommon for a game to “migrate” from one server to another interrupting game play.  Games are also vulnerable to hackers with auto aim instant head shot wonder bots that completely ruin the game.  They can’t be kicked and they can’t be stopped because no one has the power to do so.  You can leave the game or wait for it all to be over and find a new peer-to-peer server but the end result is always the same.  A loss.

3. Story (GREAT) – From the new arctic adventures to running back into the sand and all they way to the White House, there is no stopping this story.  Everyone is going to try to complete this game in one sitting just to see what will be unleashed next.  There is so much in there and so little I wish to give away.  Some of the content has even sparked a little controversy.   You need to play through the story at least once, hands down.

4. Soundtrack (GREAT) - Every gun burst and explosion are so real you may just have flashbacks yourself.  Even some famous rappers have their hands in helping.  Check out the official website to get a taste of the promo videos and some of the great sound work you can look forward to hearing.  If i was a betting man, I’d bet this soundtrack will be winning an award for some choice titles. http://modernwarfare2.infinityward.com/games.php#/videos?id=8

5. Replay Value (Outstanding) -The game is great inside and out.  Spec-ops and the main story campaign will keep you coming back a few times, but the next 2-3 weeks of your life will be dominated by the online game play.  If you are not  online with this bad boy….you must have no soul.
