Off The Rack: X-Factor #207

Peter David really knows how to write a comic book. He has all the action and excitement that superheroes should have with enough detective Noir and surprising storytelling to keep you wanting more. Typically, David likes to split up his team and have them working in different directions. In this issue, one storyline continues to deal with David’s recent surprise revelation that Rictor and Shatterstar are lovers.

The writer reminds us  that Shatterstar is from the ‘Mojo’ dimension and raised to be nothing but a warrior. When he begins to explore having a loving relationship with Rictor, he doesn’t know the boundaries that Rictor and most of us take for granted. David gives us an interesting dialogue between the two men discussing their relationship and how they will carry it out, monogamous or an open relationship.

In another story arc, Multiple Man and Longshot are back at the detective agency where a very voluptuous woman signs on as a client.  She hires them to steal back a valuable necklace. With Siryn’s help, they locate and corner the supposed thief only to be surprised that this simple case isn’t what it appears to be.

Finally, the remainder of team tries to help Monet figure out which is more important, keeping your word or letting a villain get the upper hand.

Of course the book also has a great Peter David twist at the end. While some say it is not as shocking as some of his other twists have been, I still found it sadistically enjoyable.
