Roll the Dice: Cold City

Cold CityCold City, from Contested Ground Studios, is an espionage/horror rpg set in post-WWII Berlin. The Cold War is already underway, and the city of Berlin has been divided up into four areas, each one governed by one of the Allies (Russia, the U.S., France, and Britain). Cold City centers around a multinational force of secret agents (the Reserve Police Agency) who investigate the monstrous and alien horrors created and brought forth by Nazi scientists experimenting with “twisted technology” during the war.

Roll the Dice: The Dresden Files RPG

DFRPG CoverThe Dresden Files RPG from Evil Hat Productions consists of two volumes: the first, Your Story has all the core mechanics of the game, as well as GM and player-related info; the second volume, Our World, focuses on antagonists and NPCs, and is purely a for-GMs book. In this review, I’ll be checking out both of the books and giving you my impressions of the RPG as a whole.

Geist: The Sin Eaters RPG Core Book

I just finished reading Geist from cover to cover this evening, and I just knew everyone would want to hear all about my thoughts! For those of you who also read my initial thoughts on Geist, there’ll be a bit of overlap, but I hope you’ll bear with me.

Roll of the Dice: Geist – Chris’ Initial Thoughts…

Geist: The Sin Eaters RPG Core Book

Geist: The Sin Eaters RPG Core Book

The eagerly anticipated arrival of Geist: the Sin-Eaters finally came here at Gen Con ’09, and I picked up my copy within the first ten minutes of arriving at the Con. Given the craziness that is the essence of Gen Con, I haven’t been able to get through everything, but so far it looks to me like White Wolf has hit another one out of the park. Geist: the Sin-Eaters is a game about people who have died but, through their desire to live, have bonded with a being called a geist and returned to life. This merging causes Sin-Eaters (the name these beings call themselves) to stand on the threshold between alive and dead, and thus, they end up dealing with both mortals and ghosts in their daily lives.

Role of the Dice: Using The Dresden Files as a hook for Hunter: The Vigil

So hopefully I’m not the only GM out there who has been enjoying a new novel, graphic novel, comic book, or what have you and has thought to myself, “I hope my players never read this, ‘cause I’m gonna ‘homage’ this chapter next session!” Anyone else? Yes? No? Well, I’m going to take your silence as an affirmative and plow onward with Recommended Reading!

Roll of the Dice: Bloodline RPG adventure

Bloodlines is an adventure produced by 12 to Midnight for the d20 Modern rules system. This particular adventure is by Preston P. DuBose, and is a cleverly designed horror-mystery set in the small town of Pinebox (yes, Pinebox) Texas. The adventure centers around the machinations of an evil cult, a mysterious unnamed organization, and even ghosts! Don’t worry though, there’s no haunted mansion.
