Roll of the Dice: Wits & Wagers

newwitsboxI think I can safely assume we have all played Trivial Pursuit or some other trivia game with the person who is a trivia nut. The person who dominates the game because they have a head full of useless facts. I am one of those guys. I love trivia games. Not everyone likes to play with me though. I finally found a trivia game that can neutralize my useless knowledge and allow everyone at the table to have a great time. Wits & Wagers from North Star Games is that game.

Roll of the Dice: Redneck Life

SGBGometimes in life you just need to laugh.  A good belly laugh will put a smile on the face of everyone in the room.  That laugh can become contagious.  It can have a snowball effect.  Before you know it everyone is bustin’ a gut.  Look back with me to the year 2006.  Gut Bustin’ Games released a game called Redneck Life.  A board game that would make Jeff Foxworthy do a spit take.  Gut Bustin’ Games was kind enough to provide us with a copy of Redneck Life to review following Gen Con ’09.  Let’s take a closer look at this game.

Why Do I Go to Gen Con?

ffocag-gen-con-logoI love going to Gen Con.  Each year about late July I start requesting days off from work in order to attend Gen Con on Saturday and Sunday.  In my old place of business, there were a lot of gamers.  When they heard that I was going to Gen Con, they would ask what games I play.  I would answer them honestly that I have not had a regular gaming group since I was in high school and was playing 2nd Edition AD&D.  They would ask why I was going and I would give them the same answer I give my colleagues at my new place of business. Benton’s Gen Con Experience – Day 3: Return of the Gen Con

John’s Gen Con Experience – Day 3

ffocag-gen-con-logoAfter struggling out of bed at 8:30, we made our way to breakfast and then back to the convention center. With the rest of the crew tied up with interviews, I decided to walk the floor and demo games.

Roll of the Dice: Geist – Chris’ Initial Thoughts…

Geist: The Sin Eaters RPG Core Book

Geist: The Sin Eaters RPG Core Book

The eagerly anticipated arrival of Geist: the Sin-Eaters finally came here at Gen Con ’09, and I picked up my copy within the first ten minutes of arriving at the Con. Given the craziness that is the essence of Gen Con, I haven’t been able to get through everything, but so far it looks to me like White Wolf has hit another one out of the park. Geist: the Sin-Eaters is a game about people who have died but, through their desire to live, have bonded with a being called a geist and returned to life. This merging causes Sin-Eaters (the name these beings call themselves) to stand on the threshold between alive and dead, and thus, they end up dealing with both mortals and ghosts in their daily lives.

John’s Gen Con Experience – Day 1

ffocag-gen-con-logoMy adventure started at 3:48 on Thursday morning. I awoke to the beeping of my cell phone indicating a text message from Victor. Having only gone to sleep three hours earlier, I stumbled into my kitchen and made breakfast. A half hour later I was in my car. After a three and a half hour drive, I met the rest of the crew and we drove the rest of the way to Indianapolis together. After checking into the hotel room, we hit the convention center.

Benton’s Gen Con Experience – Day 1

ffocag-gen-con-logoThe first day of Gen Con is always a wild trip, and this year was no exception.

Firstly, we left at 6am. Now, I usually go to bed about 6am, so this was sort of a question of ‘do I sleep or not?’ I chose ‘no sleep,’ which was probably not a good thing. Darin drove, which was probably a good thing as we arrived at Indy in good time (and I passed out a few times anyways).
